I have to laugh at this one. I recently posted from WWD that Yves Saint Laurent launched Facebook and twitter. It was going to be a big deal. They were supposed to set the stage for other luxury brands to follow. They gathered fans like crazy. In fact, they have nearly 10,000 fans on Facebook. Well guess what? As of August 7, 2009, their status is: "YSL is going to the beach! See you very soon for the next Manifesto."
What a complete let down. What does this mean see you for the next Manifesto? When will that be? What beach? What do we do until then? How could they do this build up and then desert their fans?
Maybe we use this as a case study as to how not to jump into social networking without a solid plan. In the meantime, I'll anxiously await their return from the beach.
